Senator Rockefeller Meets with Southern West Virginia Transportation Coalition Members
Senator Rockefeller is joined by members of the King Coal Authority (l-r) David
Akers, President, Charlie Justice, Treasurer, Junior Kennedy, Member and Mike Mitchem,
Executive Director.
Members of the Southern West Virginia Transportation Coalition played host to Senator
John D. Rockefeller at a luncheon in Gilbert on Friday, October 26.
Held at the
Harless Center, the event drew members from the Coalfields Expressway Authority,
King Coal Authority, Shawnee Parkway, Route 10 and the New River Parkway. These
organizations gave short presentations concerning their current status.
Senator
Rockefeller then took over the podium to reassure people that, even though funds
would be short in the next few years, he was determined to see the roads through
completion. He cautioned that public interest was focused on the aftermath of September
11 and noted he and others would be hard-pressed to find the amount of money that
Senator Robert C. Byrd has been earmarking for these roads.
